DELICLEAR® clearing agent is a buffered Lactic-acid solution designed to support the clearing of (removing dark coloring from) delicate microscopy specimens. In most cases, it is used in advance of staining. An exception to the order of steps in preserving a specimen in a mount, from collection to sealing the slide on which it is mounted, is where the mounting medium being used is Hoyer’s medium, which over time has a clearing effect. In these cases, the use of any clearing agent needs particular attention so that a specimen, well cleared prior to mounting, does not over clear as the Hoyer’s medium dries, damaging fragile structures. We recommend DELICLEAR® for clearing frail invertebrate specimens, such as insect wings, arachnid internal tissues, and thin Histology specimens. Clearing times vary based on the thickness of a specimen and the amount of clearing desired.
